Day 1
Cooperative Care: Getting Consent at the Vet
Date: February 17th, 2024
Time: 9 am MST, 11 am EST (120 min)
This presentation will give attendees the knowledge and confidence to help teach their patients to participate in their veterinary care. Learn what cooperative care means, how we can teach consent and the importance of choice. Consent behaviours discussed will include stationing and chin rest as well as the benefits of using predictor cues for cooperative veterinary care training and how to transfer this type of training to veterinary procedures.
Day 2
Cooperative Care in Action: Techniques for Food and Non-food Distraction
Time: 12 pm MST, 2 PM EST
Date: February 18th, 2024 (120 minutes)
Teaching patients to cooperate in their care doesn’t always mean training consent behaviours. Animals can learn to make positive associations with veterinary procedures and care using food and non-food distraction. In this presentation, attendees will learn the importance of observing body language, use our own body language in a manner that prevents and alleviates fear, anxiety, and stress and how to practically apply distraction techniques.
Cooperative Care in Action: Case Studies and Panel Discussion with Jessica Benoit and Tabitha Kucera
Time: 3 pm MST, 5 pm EST (90 minutes)
Date: February 18th, 2024
Putting it all together! Join us for an in-depth look into 6 case studies featuring both canine and feline patients working through cooperative care training and behaviour modification. Questions and discussion will follow with Tabitha Kucera and Jessica Benoit.
